On Saturday, August 5th, families and friends braved the rains & came out in their numbers to raise awareness for Cervical Cancer. WHO(World Health Organization) describes it as “one of the world’s deadliest forms of cancer endured by women, but easily preventable utilizing the Pap Smear test and ongoing screening initiatives.” An international social media campaign; SMEARIT, initiated in January 2017, is aimed to encourage women to understand the importance of early screening by Pap smears, and families to talk freely, breaking the stigma attached to such screening. Dr. Sabrina Ramkisson and a group of passionate individuals brought the campaign to Trinidad and Tobago, with the first initiative: transforming the campaign into a walkathon “Smear-a-thon”, This inaugural initiative rallied great support and celebrated a successful outcome.
